Shorter Permalinks

  • In my permalink structure I use %postname% to use titles for file names. The problem is that some of the titles are really long, therefore the file names are also very long.
Is there any way to keep these long titles but automatically generate a shortened version of the title for the file name?

  • Yes, edit the post slug (somewhere under the big edit field). Or no, as this isn’t automatic.

Well, you could edit the function that generates the slugs and make it chop off at a certain length…

    Thanks for the responses.
Yngwin, can I easily edit the function that generates the slugs, or is that getting into dangerous territory?
Do you know where this function resides?
