Shortcodes working on list but not single

I’m adding a shortcode for a flicker gallery into the bio section and it works great on the group list page but is just displaying as text in the single page.
I set it up generally following the answer in this post http://wordpress.org/support/topic/link-to-staff-member-page?replies=29

Any ideas how I can fix that?
