Support » Fixing WordPress » Shortcodes show in excerpts in category view but not homepage

  • Hi all

I keep seeing shortcodes in the excerpts of posts when viewed in category view, but not on the main blog page. This only happens when the image is the first thing in the post.

Any ideas? It’s pretty infuriating! I’ve not got any advanced excerpt plugins installed.

    Help much appreciated 🙂

The excerpt of a post is by default the first 55 words of the post, which will include any shortcodes or other post tags such as ‘code’ or ‘pre’, etc.

You might try copying and pasting the first 55 words of your post (after the image) … or 20, or 62 (*grin*), into the “Excerpt” box below the post. WordPress will then display that information rather than “creating” an excerpt from the post with its default structure.

Hope that helps some … also note, your excerpt (generated or manually typed) is commonly displayed as part of the results on search engines, too.
