• Hello:
In my create new posts section since upgrading to wordpress 3.9.2 my shortcode buttons and insert link button do not work. I click on them and nothing pops up.
I am using the genesis theme but I have tried using other themes and have the same issue.
I have also tried disabling all plugin’s without any luck.
Can anyone help me sort this out?

  • Hi @tina1111

I wonder if your shortcode buttons only support TinyMCE version 3 and not version 4 that’s shipped with WordPress 3.9.

Do you got any javascript errors?

Is it a public available shortcode button plugin you’re using?

    Hello,
I’ve ran the test for javascript errors (through google chrome tools) and there are some, however with my limited knowledge I have no idea what that even means or how to fix it from there……any advice?

I’m trying to use short-codes ultimate for the plug in. My husband is using the same wordpress version 3.9.2 and the exact same theme and his shortcodes and link buttons work fine….
    Do you have any advice?
    Thanks so much
    Tina

This is the error I’m getting:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘show’ of undefined load-scripts.php?c=1&load%5B%5D=hoverIntent,common,admin-bar,jquery-ui-draggable,jquery-ui-slider,j…:1344

    I just tested the plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/shortcodes-ultimate

and it seems to work as expected on my 3.9.2 install.

If you tested the plugin using the default theme and without any other plugins activated, I wonder if your upgrade was un-successful in some way? Maybe you need to re-install 3.9.2?

Any PHP errors? (see for example this Codex page on debugging)

You can try for example to add this into your wp-config.php :

    define( 'CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false);

to see if it makes any difference.

I believe you have not disabled all your plugins.

The updates conflicting with your plugins as javascript is not loading from the very outset. I think you will have to upgrade TinyMCE or get rid of it.

    Hope that helps.

I have tried disabling all plug ins and even moving them out of my plug in folder in my hosting wp-content folder.
This is likely a dumb question, what is tiny mce and how do I upgrade or get rid of it?
Th aka so much for everyone’s help!!

    Tinymce is WordPress’s editor.

Kindly download and install the following plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/

I believe this would resolve the issue. If not, pls find me at your disposal at this forum for the next few hours.

I’ve downloaded the plug in, but still does not work. The error on getting is as such:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘show’ of undefined load-scripts.php?c=1&load%5B%5D=hoverIntent,common,admin-bar,schedule,wp-ajax-response,autosave,jqu…:1061

    h wp-tinymce.php?c=1&ver=4021-20140423:1

Any other idea’s what it could be?

    What theme are you using?

    Thread Starter Tina1111

    (@tina1111)

I’m using genesis with the lifestyle child theme, I’ve tried deleting all plug in’s and switching to wordpress 2014 theme, that didn’t work either.

The error above was given when trying to use the insert link button from the visual editor menu.

If I am to try reinstaling wordpress, will I not lose all my posts and pictures?

    Any further advice?
    Thanks

You can take a backup from:

    Dashboard > Tools > Export

Leave the current installation as it is and kindly do a clean install in another folder. Import your backup and see if things work out.

If the shortcodes still don’t work would mean your theme is not compatible with WP’s new version.

    Good Luck.

I will try this…..can you advise how I do a clean install in a new folder, sorry for my lack of knowledge here. I have back up my files already. I’m not sure what to do in my cpanel file manager and don’t want to make things worse.

My husband is actually using the same theme with wordpress version 3.9.2, without any problems at all, so it isn’t a theme issue.
    Thanks

Go to cPanel > File Manager > public_html > Press OK

Create New Folder and name it to “tina”

Download WordPress3.9.2 and upload it into the folder.

    Extract

Create new Database & user from

    cPanel > MySQL

Be sure to select ALL privileges

Install new WordPress using the following link: http://www.yourdomain.com/tina

Once you’ve done a clean install

Import your backup to the default theme and see if shortcodes etc ate working

If they are, copy your theme from old installation

public_html/wp-content/themes/themename (whatever theme name that you’re using)

Copy [dont move] the theme folder to public_html/tina/wp-content/themes/

Now pls go to WordPress Dashboard and select the new theme and Activate it.

Do make sure you have the latest version of WordPress.

Ok, firstly thanks so much for all your help, I’m at the point in your instructions where I’ve installed new wordpress using the link http://www.barefootbegininngs.net/Tina.

I’m stuck on how to test if my shortcodes are working, if I log into barefoot beginnings, its my old site. How do I log onto this new “folder” to test it?

    Thread Starter Tina1111

    (@tina1111)

    Hello:
Ok so I’ve fiddled with things and I had to create a subdomain to log in and test the new settings. I’ve uploaded my theme, post and pages and everything works great (needs some formatting but everything is there at least). The links and shortcodes are working again 🙂

My only problem now is that in doing all this now my domain name is
http://www.Tina.barefootbeginnings.net – how do I get this back to my original domain name of http://www.barefootbeginnings.net?

Would I delete the WP content, admin and includes folders in my original file manager and replace them with the ones from my new Tina folder?

Secondly would I need to do another wordpress install into my http://www.barefootbeginnings.net domain name (same as we did above into http://www.barefootbeginnings.net/tina?

I’m almost there and really appreciate the help!

    Thanks
    Tina
