you can set listing order order by going to settings menu under Directory. then under listings sort options tab, change Listings Sort Order. order by ID and DESC should be correct option for you.

and it is still not showing. I see only the categories and how many listings there are in each category. So I would like to show the latest listings below these categories overview, is it possible?

You can also use the shortcodes to display listings directly from any category. You can see examples of available shortcodes in the help page of the plugin.

Sorry, we misunderstood your intent here. Currently the plugin does not support this feature. However, you might achieve a similar affect by making use of the Featured Listings settings:
Dashboard >> Directory >> Settings >> Featured Listings
From here you can select which tags to show on the homepage, how many to show, how to sort their appearance.
Next you would need to add your selected tag(s) to the individual listings. You should be able to use the Bulk Actions options in the listings page to make this easier.
