When using EasyPost by ELEX for shipping calculation plus WooCommerce Shipping & Tax or AvaTax plugins, the shipping options switch and change the shipping option chosen by the end user.

When turning off either Woo S&T and AvaTax plugins, the shipping options work normally.

ELEX has mentioned that these tax plugins need to be reviewed for conflict. I’m at a loss on why when a tax plugin is added, shipping options swap.

(i.e. you pick First Class shipping on the cart, go to checkout, the shipping options are mixed and a different option is picked (like USPS express)

  • Hi @maryjostaebler ,

Thanks for reaching out about this!
I’m sorry to hear about the trouble during the checkout flow. And I appreciate the time you spent performing some conflict testing.

In order to help you further, I’d like to know:
    – Is WooCommerce Shipping & Tax configured to calculate rates at checkout (or are you just using EasyPost by ELEX)?
    – Is WooCommerce Shipping & Tax used to calculate automatic taxes (or are you using AvaTax for that)?

    Thanks so much!

    Thanks for the quick response.

When using the default WooComm taxes calculation the issue does not arise.

EasyPost by ELEX is the one calculating shipping at checkout. They do not calculate taxes.

I have tried automated taxes by Woo S&T turned on (no AvaTax) and the issue occurs.

I have tried AvaTax (no Woo S&T) and EasyPost and the issue occurs (I’m following up with AvaTax with them.

I’m just looking for an option for the site as the site was working fine with AvaTax (taxes), Woo S&T (printing labels), and Easypost (shipping) at some point.

    Hi @maryjostaebler,

I just did the following testing:
    – Created a brand new site
    – Configured some standard shipping rates in different shipping zones (using WooCommerce Shipping & Tax rates, Flat rate & USPS rates)
    – Added a product to the cart
    – Went to the cart page, entered an address, and selected a rate
    – Went to the checkout

I did this testing with WooCommerce Shipping & Tax automated taxes enabled and disabled.
I also tested with Avatax taxes enabled and disabled.

At the end of each testing round, I ensured that the rate selected on the cart was persisted to the checkout page.

I’m so sorry about pinging you back and forth, but I’m not yet able to reproduce the issue, and I don’t have access to EasyPost by ELEX.

    > I have tried automated taxes by Woo S&T turned on (no AvaTax) and the issue occurs
    > I have tried AvaTax (no Woo S&T) and EasyPost and the issue occurs

To confirm, does the issue occur with just the plugin EasyPost by ELEX enabled (without WooCommerce Shipping & Tax and without AvaTax)?

Thanks for your cooperation and your patience!

I appreciate the help in troubleshooting.

The issue does not occur with just EasyPost (other plugins not activated).

If the site uses either tax plugin active and using a flat rate shipping, the issue does not occur either.

Only the combo of EasyPost and one of the two tax plugins.

    Hi @maryjostaebler,

It’s entirely possible that EasyPost is just not compatible with these two for shipping calculations in the cart.

One workaround might be to disable the shipping calculator in the cart. You can disable it by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Options.

That way customers can’t select shipping options in the cart and you won’t have to worry about them switching before they check out.

Let us know if you have any questions.
