Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » Shelflife theme external images

  • Hi,

I’m trying to use external images for my woocommerce products. I’ve seen it is possible with timthumb.php on other themes.

I simply can’t find the code used to display product images and thumbnails.

I’m using the Shelflife theme and want to know what file(s) and code I need to edit to display an external image from an url (taken from product meta-data) instead of the internal uploaded images.

I believe this will require quite a bit of modification. First you would need to create a custom meta field to hold your link to your external image. Then, depending if your theme already has timthumb, you may have to add that. And by default timthumb will not let you source from a domain outside of your own except known image sharing sites so you will need to modify the settings in timthumb to allow this. You can create a configuration file for timthumb as it allows this so you can override core settings.

After all that you need to modify all the output for your product images to use the timthumb format and post meta to pull the image source.

    Hope that helps!

    I finally got it done.

I did indeed have to create the meta field and then edit quite a few woocomerce plugin template and widget files and some of the theme to use said meta field instead of placeholders.

Far to many to list and explain.
