 * A buddy of mine just started running wordpress, and there are some plugins that
my site is running (social to be precise) that are not available any more. Can
I copy the social folder from my plugin directory and share it with him and have
it work on his site? What would happen if I try to just make a copy and zip it
and then he attempts to install it via the zip install? Would any of this work?

 * There are a number of plugins that will add social sharing. Is the plugin you
are using on your site a premium plugin? if so it is not advised to copy the
directory from your plugins directory because you likely paid for a one-site
license which means he will not get the updates.
 * You could always look at social sharing plugins that are available from the wp.
org library directly in his wp-admin under Plugins → Add New.
 * Hope this helps, once you find a plugin your friend is happy with kindly tag
   this thread as resolved.

 * No, the plugin was free, and is called “Social” it allowed publishing to Facebook
Pages directly from the post (not sharing a post direct posting)

 * Well, if the plugin is no longer available it means that it has not been updated
anymore and will not work eventually. Yes you can do that but it is better to
   use a maintained plugin.

 * True, but it’s getting difficult to find one that actually do what I want.

 * Well, then yes. I’d say go ahead and copy it over. Bare in mind the security
risks of using a plugin that is no longer being maintained though.

 * I mean – its your friends website I would think you care about your friends stuff
the same as you do your own.. but that is not really a conversation for the forums
   so to each their own.
