    Hello,

I have noticed that the share options look entirely different for different browsers, on the same device. Is this normal behavior? How can I make it look uniform?

Is there a way to change the size of the story window i.e in the same 3:4 ratio but a smaller size?

    Thanks,
    Anand

@ananddevops Thank you for reaching out. What device/browser are you noticing this on?

Can you share a screenshot via Jumpshare or Imgur?

Can you share your story URL so we can take a look?

@luckynasan Apologies. Here you can see the screenshots

    Chrome Latest Version

And here is the link to the story page

    Thanks

    @ananddevops Thank you.

It looks like you are seeing these differences in Chrome on a Windows device. Is that correct?

I’ve opened an upstream ticket to investigate the differences further. We’ll be sure to follow up with any updates.

    @luckynasan that’s strange.

I am trying this on Desktop – Win 10.

    Firefox Version – 90.0.2 (32-bit)
Chrome Version – Version 92.0.4515.107 (Official Build) (64-bit)

    Thanks

From what I can tell, this looks like expected behavior.

When you click on the share button, the Web Stories player tries to invoke the native sharing capabilities of your operating system.

Currently, Firefox does not support this, falling back to that gray-ish dialog in your screenshot.

Chrome however supports it, so it can show the sharing capabilities related to Windows, such as Cortana and OneNote.

@swissspidy Thank you for the clarification.

The thought being, the likely candidates, atleast in my case, would be to able to share on the usual social platforms, email, get the link and the ability to add more customizable by the user? That being uniform behvaiour across devices, OS and browsers. Is that not possible to achieve, through settings currently?

Also if you could address the resizing possibility of the story area, through settings.

    Thanks

It is possible to add more share providers through some code, but that only works for this fallback screen you see in Firefox. Using the computer’s native sharing capabilities makes for a better user experience and is more engaging. It cannot be disabled. Just check it on your smartphone to see how well it works.

As for the canvas size, it’s not possible to change its aspect ratio, but I don’t see how that would be useful.

The canvas is 9:16, with the safe zone inside being 2:3, which is closer to the actual size of smartphone screens these days.

Of course every screen is different, so the preview mode will show you exactly how your story is going to look like under different circumstances.

If you would create your story on a 3:4 canvas, you would see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing it on any common smartphone these days.

    Hope that helps!

@swissspidy I did see it in mobile. It works great when we are using the chrome browser app, share as well size wise. Although when embedded within a block , it takes full size. If the page has other content, then the user needs to scroll accurately to view it properly. Thus a resize options helps in these cases.

But as far as the other browsers are concerned, its the same gray screen. That ofcourse limits user to user viewing choices. Although it would be great to be able to modify and add more social links to the gray screen. As of now the More/Get Link options also doesn’t work.

Nevertheless, I appreciate you taking time to explain me the details.

    Thanks

Oh, so you are referring to changing the size of the block? You can change the block’s width and height via the controls in the sidebar in the block editor.

    > Although it would be great to be able to modify and add more social links to the gray screen.

That is currently possible via the web_stories_share_providers filter in PHP. There’s no UI for it though.

@swissspidy Thank you for the clarifications.

Actually I was talking about the story Page size – see here . But as you mentioned before, i guess that’s not possible yet.

Also thanks for sharing options by PHP code. Look forward to see it in the UI in the future.

    Thanks again.
