• I am helping someone with their non-profit site running on WordPress. They will have volunteers manning the site and managing the projects. I would like to use Matt Mullenweg’s/Automattic’s Prologue theme that turns WP into a collaborative tool for that purpose. Read about it here:
    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2008/01/28/introducing-prologue/

How easy would it be to make the Prologue site share the user tables with the main WP site? Is this even possible? I told them it likely wasn’t, at least not without a lot of scripting. So I guess their solution, if this in fact cannot be accomplished (fairly easily) is to just keep their same user names and passwords across both sites?

    Thanks for any help.

  • 3 things that look a little useful:

SM2WP – concept seems to be similar, although the current ‘beta’ version isn’t compatible. However, someone did patch it for 2.5 , but one post on that thread says it might not work for 2.5.1?

A forum thread with some code change – again, one post seems to say that this might not work.

Virtual Multiblog for WordPress – someone has tested this with 2.5 and the author appears to give a fair amount of support via the comments.

And finally, a link originally posted by moshu from the WordPress documentation: Installing Multiple Blogs (the part towards the end looks helpful)

Sorry if none of these work out (or you’ve already investigated them) 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your project!

Wow, thanks for your quick reply. I’m definitely going to check these out. Because if one of these works, it has possibilities for other sites as well. Thanks a bunch!

I’ll keep my fingers crossed! 🙂 Hopefully you won’t mind posting back with some results if possible!

just thought i’d share: i tried this, and it works.

i used 1 “main” wordpress install with wp_ prefix,
then added any number of “alternate blogs” to share the same user tables,
using prefixes like WP1_, WP2_, etc
