Support » Plugin: Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth » Share count not visible after switching to https

  • Hi, I post on https://sunlog.ro

    Now with https, because I just switched to SSL (secure connection). The problem is I can no longer see the number of Facebook shares for written posts. Facebook share button displays nothing.

    In Developer Tool/Console I see the following error:

    “Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘share_count’ of undefined”

    which takes place in “jetpack/modules/sharedaddy/sharing.js?ver=4.2.2” at line 75:

    “if ( ! data.hasOwnProperty( url ) || ! data[ url ].share.share_count ) {“

    Not sure if it is a problem at my end. I appreciate any help or suggestion.

    Thank you kindly.

    Social networks, including Facebook, store sharing counts for unique URLs. If that URL changes, like http to https, social networks start counting from zero again. Since that is handled on their end, I’m afraid there isn’t much we can do.

    I hope this helps to at least clear things up. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    Thank you for reply. This does indeed clear things up. And true, the counter is working allright for new blog posts.

    One last question: why is Jetpack throwing that

    “Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘share_count’ of undefined”

    for old posts? I mean I know it’s no bother for the reader, but isn’t a sign of a perfectible code?

    That’s definitely an issue, and something we’ll address in the upcoming version of Jetpack, scheduled to be released later this week. You can see the related patch here:
