Support » Plugin: Social Sharing Buttons, Related Posts, Google Analytics - Shareaholic » Share buttons and related content not working

  • Good Morning,

I’ve sent a few messages through internal messaging for support but unfortunately those communications have gone unanswered.

The share buttons and related content is not displaying on the page and in addition, if I try to customize the settings for the share buttons I get the following error (no errors returned when adjusting the related content settings).

Whoops, that isn’t a valid web address 🙁
    Did you type the URL?

You may have typed the address (URL) incorrectly. Check to make sure you’ve got the exact right spelling, capitalization, etc.

Did you follow a link from somewhere else on shareaholic.com?

If you reached this page from another part of shareaholic.com, please contact us so we can correct our mistake.

Could you please provide assistance. I believe the issue began after the last update.

    Thank you

    Grace

  • Hi Grace,

Thanks for letting us know! When did you receive the error message? Do you mind giving me steps on how to reproduce the error message? Also, when you say the share buttons and related content is not displaying on the page, do you mean your website? I was able to see the share buttons and related content perfectly fine on your site. Let me know!

    Thank you,
    Mary Anne

    Hi Maryanne,

I think you’re seeing a cached version of my site pages (that’s why I didn’t notice it right away), can you please check again. Immediately after the last update the errors started to appear, I sent several messages from the WordPress dashboard but have yet to receive a reply.

    Hi Grace,

Thanks for your patience! I’ve cleared my browser’s cache and viewed your site again. It appears that both the share buttons and related content are displaying. As for your Shareaholic plugin dashboard, I can definitely investigate. Is it possible to get temporary admin access to your blog? If so, can you send that info directly to my e-mail at maryanne@shareaholic.com? Let me know if that’s something you’re interested in doing. Happy to get this fixed for you.

    Thanks,
    Mary Anne

    Hi Maryanne,

It appears they’ve started populating again but I’m still receiving the Whoops message when trying to customize the share settings, please see attached screen shot – http://awesomescreenshot.com/0d34lyyna4.

I’m sorry I don’t feel comfortable providing login credentials.

Forgot to ask a question Maryanne – Google posted this article yesterday – http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.ca/2015/03/unblocking-resources-with-webmaster.html – I checked the Blocked Resources Report in WMTs this morning and noticed that Shareaholic is blocking resources from Googlebot. Is there any chance Shareaholic is going to consider unblocking resources to Googlebot? (In fact, I’m quite surprised to see the graph.facebook json callback resource because I have disabled the feature via my Shareaholic settings?

Did you get any answer on this Grace?
    I’ve got the same issue.

    Can someone help?

    Hi @rafkika,

Of course we can help! But in order for me to investigate what is happening, I have a few questions: Are you receiving the “Whoops” error message when customizing your settings? If so, can you provide me steps on how you’re getting these messages? Also, would you mind providing me the URL to your site?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Grace,

Sorry for the late reply. Blocking resources from bot crawling is a technique used on the internet to prevent indexing areas that should not be indexed. We use this technique to prevent our traffic analytics from being indexed and clicks on those resources generating false numbers for us. We do not want the resource to be unblocked, and so we will not be updating our robots.txt file.

This article helps to explain Google blocked resources.

Google Webmaster Tools Adds Blocked Resources Report & Updates Fetch & Render Tool

Again – this is not an error condition that needs repair. It is a protective measure used on the internet that Google measures in its own way.

Let me know if you have additional questions about this!

    Thanks,
    Mary Anne

Grace – I forgot to ask, are you still getting the “whoops” message? I checked your site and your share buttons and related content display beautifully on all browsers. If you’re still getting the message, let me know and I’ll take care of it today.

    Thank you,
    Mary Anne
