    Hello WordPress.org,

Please can you help? Some time on Sunday the 4th of March 2012, Share and Follow dropped out of the WordPress Plugins Directory. It was a great surprise for me to see it gone as I had received no notice of it’s impending deletion or any other advice to give me warning of wrong doing that might necessitate its removal.

Please can you help me to understand where it is, and why it has been removed? It is a shame as it is a very popular plugin, sometimes on page 1 of most popular and often on page 2. So to see it removed was quite a shock, not just for me but also for the users both current and future. I have received quite a few emails asking me where it is and what is going on, which of course I cannot answer without your help.

If I am guilty of doing sometime/not doing something that has caused this action from you, please do let me know what I can do to rectify it so that the plugin can be re-instated. If there is no reason for it’s removal, then please can you help to get it re-instated as soon as possible?

    Kind regards
    Andy Killen

    Try contacting plugins[at]wordpress.org.

Esmi, are they replying to that email address now? when I last tired it (albeit a year ago) I never got any replies.

    many thanks

Yes they are but it does get very busy, so please be patient.

You should have gotten an email today. It was for rampant tag abuse (over 40 tags in one plugin).

    Per http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/guidelines/

The plugin page in the directory should include no more than 12 tags. Using the names of other plugins as tags should be carefully considered, since it could be construed as “gaming” the search engine.

Cool, thanks for that. Funny that I’ve had that many tags since well over a year without issue. I am guessing the same rules did not apply when I setup my tags in the first place.

Anyhow, I will make a new release with less tags, that’s not a problem.

They’re not monitored, actually 🙂 It only gets caught when someone speaks up and reports it.

Well I’ve made a new release 1.80.2 and it’s definitely got less than 12 tags. It’s up on the system via SVN and the page is live again now, but I’m not added to the directory or is there a zip of the release.

I’m guessing that it needs some human interaction to check it out and make sure it’s not breaking any laws anymore. Who should I let know?

    thanks again for your help

    The plugins email esmi mentioned.

(I’d remove the period from the end of your tags, by the way.)

cool. will do on both counts….. and there was me wanting to make a statement with a full stop! ;D

    super cool!

Can’t thank you enough for your help. Absolutely top notch. If we were in the same town/country I think I would be buying the beers/coffee/whatever for the rest of the year.

    all the best
    Andy

Andy, have you had any further joy with this?
I’ll happily buy a copy of it, in a zip file if you are still updating it. This was the best of any of the share and follow type plugins, please please bring it back.
