Support » Plugin: Simple Facebook Connect » SFC Fanbox doesn't display anything if I'm not logged in to FB…

  • Question, the Fanbox doesn’t display avatars/fans if I’m not logged in to my own FB account…I don’t know if this is the way it’s supposed to work but, ideally, it think it would be great if users didn’t have to log in to see the linked FB page’s fans…see my page here: (scroll down see the widget in the right hand column, mid-way down the page).

Is there a way around this? I believe I have used this function in a non-CMS site in the past and I remember it displaying user’s avatars correctly without having to be logged in…

Thanks for the help in advance.

I have not experienced this myself, but I think that if the Page that it’s displaying for is in any way private or restricted, then the person seeing it must be logged in so that it can verify the restrictions.

For example, if the page is set to only be visible to people 17 and up, or if it’s country limited, or anything of that sort, then yes, you’ll have to be logged in to see the fan box.

The only way around this is to remove the restriction on Facebook itself by editing the settings of the page in question, to remove that restriction. Go to the page on FB, click the Edit Info link at the top (you must be an admin of the page), find the Manage Permissions tab, and remove whatever restrictions are set on it. Make it 13 and up, no country restrictions, etc.

Note that this really has nothing to do with the SFC plugin. It doesn’t control the content of that box or its behavior in any real way. All it’s doing is to implement Facebook’s own XFBML markup on the page. That markup gets replaced with an iframe by Facebook’s Javascript code, and the contents of that iframe come directly from Facebook’s servers. Nothing the plugin can do can restrict or unrestrict the page.
