• I’m sorry to one-star rate this plugin but I envountered several problems while testing it.

    * It’s copy is unclear, leaving the average user uncertain about how to correctly set it up (I’m developer working with WordPress every day and I didn’t get it)
    * It caused an infinite loop on a page I tried to resctrict on the frontend (althought I was logged in)
    * It reset the Restriction Message I entered
    * It throws Nonce errors (probably) on the settings page and even on the page I wanted to restrict

sadly I don’t have time to create support issue for every point mentioned above but for me this plugin needs several tests and bugfixes.

    Thanks.

And yet you had time to post a detailed 1 star review? Why not?

    tyrann0us,

Sorry the plugin doesn’t satisfy your needs. If you could find the time to create some issues it would help me make a better version for everyone, however as I experience none of these issues I wouldn’t know where to start.

Could you let me know which parts of the copy are unclear at least?

    Thanks.

@jan, unfortunately my employer doesn’t pay me for writing bug reports for plugins I can’t even use for my tasks. I’m sure you can understand that.

@matt: Thanks for getting back to me. Since it’s weekend I found the time to check what might be causing the issues I mentioned above. I cloned the project from my company’s Git server on my private machine but wasn’t able to reproduce any of these bugs. That may be because my private machine is a MacBook Pro running MAMP while at work I use Windows 10 with XAMPP.

Because I can’t delete the review I changed it to a 5 stare rating. 😉

In terms of copy I read it often so I now know what it means. I only have some minor suggestions:
    Settings page
“Public Access Roles” -> “Frontend Access Roles”
“Admin Access Roles” -> “Backend Access Roles”
“Exclude (Public|Admin) Roles” -> simply “Exlude Roles” (There’s no difference between user roles on frontend or backend.)

    On post/page
“Choose the User Role(s) that you wish to restrict.”
As non native english speaker it was a bit unclear for me at the beginning. Does it mean making the content available to the checked roles only or to all roles except the checked ones? Maybe something like “Choose the User Role(s) that you want to hide the content from.”

    Thanks.

Thank you @tryann0us, I will schedule in some time to review the copy based on your feedback.

I will also figure out the specific issue relating to Windows and add an entry to the FAQ. I suspect it will be PHP version.
