Settings / Permalinks question

    In Settings / permalinks , WP says “If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file.”

    However my permalinks are already working the way I want. Do I need to do this?

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

  • Hi,

    If your desired settings are working fine then there is no issue to change the settings and ignore the message..

    If you change the settings in the permalinks and face the problem then check the permissions in htaccess code

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

    Posted the above after installing WP super cache. Then started getting errors from feedburner saying it couldn’t find my feed. Figured out how to put the above into .htaccess, cleared the cache, and the feeds started working correctly again. Hmmm.

    What should the write rights be on .htaccess? It was owner, that didn’t work, turned on group and world and then WP did write it out. Wasn’t sure if that was safe, so changed the rights back to just owner.

    What should it be?
