settings for plugins included with themes

Hi there. What setting do I use for plugins included with themes? For instance, I use Xtheme and revolution slider. If I set it to don’t update in order to not trigger an ‘error’ notice then I am afraid it will not update or may negatively impact the auto update from Xtheme. If I don’t set it then I get the message that the plugin needs updating. What is the best course of action here? Do I just live with the error (that’s fine if that’s the case) or do I tell it to not update that plugin and know that the plugin will be updated by the theme authors when they do the next release?
