Hello @wisemanwhite,
Thanks for reporting it. I just tried to replicate the issue (WP Maintenance Mode 2.2.4 + WordPress 5.5.3 + PHP 7.4), but without success: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYXThMLHIp
1. What other plugins are you using? Please deactivate them one-by-one, and then try to save the settings again.
2. Have you checked the error log? Here’s a small tutorial about how to set up the error log: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-set-up-wordpress-error-logs-in-wp-config/

Hello @souscaf,
Have you checked the error log? Otherwise, it’s kind of hard to guess what’s happening because I can’t replicate the issue on my computer.

Thanks for responding George. It was a new website, so I only had 3 other plugins active at the time:
Insert Headers and Footers
Loginizer
WP Maintenance Mode
I also had Yoast downloaded, but it was not active at the time. I was able to get through the issue by filling out the design tab last.
I saw in your recording (thanks for that) that the emoji didn’t cause an issue for you, but things did reset on me after filling out the modules and GDPR tabs and saving that information. After saving those tabs, the information that I placed in the design tab would be gone.
@wisemanwhite https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYli3uNGjQ – I still can’t replicate the issue. That’s why I was asking about the error logs.
Also, what web hosting package you’re using? Because I’d like to do some tests.
