# Setting up wordpress again

 * Hey guys please help me out with this..its really urgent. Since a few months 
   i had been working on putting together a website , and one day my hard disk crashed.
   I set my pc up again, installed wordpress again using Microsoft Web Matrix. But
   i want to start my work again frm where i left it(fortunately i have a backup
   on my pendrive) so can you please help me out in this.
    PS: I am able to run 
   a fresh wordpress website. But i want to start from where i left( a lot of work
   involved :D). The website wasn’t hosted on any web server Thanks in advance.

 * I just copied the entire wordpress folder, that is all the files such as themes
   plugins and all such stuff.(i.e the entire parent folder.)
    How are we supposed
   to backup the database? I didnot host the website was just developing it on a
   local host..

 * So will i be not able to restore my website? At least not fully, what are the
   portions of the website that i will be able to restore?

 * Not much with exception of the themes and plugins you have installed, as well
   as your media library. . If you didn’t back up the database, you lose all users,
   all posts, all pages, just to name a few things.

 * DJDoubleXL189 as i said my website wasnt hosted on a web server, so i wont be
   losing any users and important data. Will the customizations and edits i made
   to the theme and plugin be restored?
    And please me know of how i can use the
   backup which i have( i just copied the entire wordpress folder on which i was
   working on).

 * No. you shouldn’t be editing themes or plugins for this very reason. For themes,
   you should be using [a child theme for your changes](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)
   or a [custom CSS plugin](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=custom+css).

 * So what i can use with the backup i have is just the theme and plugins which 
   i used? And nothing else?

 * If you have nothing to lose other than your theme and plugin what is your problem?
   Just use the saved theme and plugins and reset everything.
