• Hi,

I have a holding page up at the moment on my domain. I want to setup a wp site, but leave the current holding page up until I’ve set the new wp one.

Can I just put the wp files into a subfolder of httpdocs, access it by going to f10studios.co.uk/wp

and then when its ready move it up a directory? And I wont have any complications with databases, or gallleries etc?

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers
    Nick

  • yes, you can do it ..
put WP files inside a dir Called wp in your root, (not inside httpdocs) and you will have what you wnat.
    Later, to move, read HERE

What about putting wordress files in httpdocs, but renaming wordpress’ index.php file to home.php, so, that it doesn’t replace the holding page. And once the work is done, just rename it back to index.php.

    Shouldn’t it work?

    no

thanks but maybe I’m missing something…as I say, I cannot create a folder called wp in my root. plesk wont let me – permission denied.

You mean you cannot create any kind of subfolder on that host? Then get a decent host. (although I cannot believe that’s impossible to create a subfolder)

thats what i mean, yep. I try in control panel and ftp program and both deny me. so this sounds like its not normal.

I bought hosting from SMS and its powered by plesk. but maybe i shouldnt have
