Setting up a local server

Hi guys

I’m really new to wordpress, I’ve not begun to install yet, as I don’t have any hosting space. But in the meantime I’m trying to install a local server so that I can develop on my home pc and play around at home.

I’m looking for some instructions on setting things up in a windows environment. I’ve installed the mysql GUI suite, and wamp.

I went through the process of setting things up with my mate but when we typed localhost into the browser ( after setting up the database etc, putting that info into the wordpress conf file).

I hope I’m not annoying being a noob, but the server side stuff is so foreign to me.I can read up on all this but I’m struggling to find docs

I’m really keen to get into wp it looks amazing
