Setting <a> tag to Subpages and not Pages

Hey, guys, I need help with pages.

if you take a look at my template at http://nintensity.net/Everywomans1/templ8.html, you can see that subpages are nested into the main pages, HOWEVER, the main pages don’t have any link tags.

WordPress automatically sets each page to a link tag, but I can’t override it. Help?

On a side note, you can see that in the navigation, there is an arrow beside the text to remind the user what page he or she is on. Can anybody help me how I approach this?
    thanks!
