Set URL NOT working

We have set the url for events page in the widget and checked the checkbox for “add link to single event”. however the link does not use the url for the events page, and attempts to load the event in the widget area instead of redirecting to the single event page. this only happens in the widget. if you click on an event in the event list page, it loads correct the single event. please advise
