I've tried searching but no luck, I probably used the wrong keywords but is there a way to make wordpress use a "upload" folder on a different server?

    For Example:

I installed wordpress on Server A and I created an "uploads" folder on Server B. Is there a way for wordpress to make the uploads folder on Server B the default folder to put media files in???

Sorry for my bad english, Thanks in advance...

    A) The uploads folder can be anywhere in your site /wp-admin/options-media.php

    Review the Uploading Files section

    B) You can use Windows Live Writer to make posts and within it assign an ftp server as the location of your images/media. And I am sure other programs too.

thanks so much for the reply sir SwansonPhotos...

A)I'm planning to set the uploads folder in different server, different from the one I installed wordpress on.

B)I already have a hosting account wherein I want to put the uploaded media files, so I think I will not take this option.

I am not sure that I got my point across...with WLW, you can post to server A and images go by ftp to server B.

Install it and use it on a Windows PC or Virtual Machine. Read up on it.

You might be able to achieve this with .htaccess and mod_rewrite.

    Something like:

    RewriteRule ^wp-content/uploads/(.*)$ http://ServerB.com/uploads/$1 [R=301,L]

I've never done it with WordPress, so I'm probably missing something. Not sure if that would work with WordPress permalink structure either. Too many different variables. Maybe better to try using a CDN plugin and point it to Server B.

Thanks for your reply sir Mickey... I'll be looking into it...

I'm not familiar with cdn... could you recommend good cdn plugins that could accomplish this??

That was just an idea based on the way CDNs serve your static files. I'm not even sure if it would work with what you're trying to do. It was just an idea. You'd have to research it and see if that would work for you.
