Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » Set NextGEN Featured Image Gone in Gutenberg

Posting this as I hadn’t realized until now that I was asked to make another topic, despite being the same core issue:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/featured-images-nextgen-in-article-disappear-in-gutemberg/

Essentially, in the current latest version of WordPress 5.5.1 and NextGen Gallery (under PHP 7.4 and MySQL 5.7 or 5.5), the “Set NextGEN Featured Image” link no longer exists in the Gutenberg editor under ‘Document’ (sidebar). However, it works fine in the Classic Editor, just not Gutenberg.

In the link above somebody found that it was due to a conflict with one of their plugins, but I didn’t have that plugin. I have tried disabling all my plugins, except NGG, in sequence and the issue persists.

    Apologies @ispreview,

NextGEN Gallery works with Gutenberg right now with the lastest WordPress installs.
The issue on your side might be related to either an environment setting or an existing conflict.

Are you currently hosting your site on wordpress.com?
If that’s the case, we would love to provide you a patched version of the plugin that includes a fix for that hosting provider only.

On your suggestion that it was the same issue.
I remember that you mentioned that the Classic Editor feature was broken.

As per my other bug report, the workaround of using “Classic Editor” is pointless right now as the link used to select an image is broken (doesn’t save your choice) since WP5.5 too.

That’s, in fact, a bug report, and our developers are working on a solution.

Please, keep us posted. We are happy to help!

    Hi @gabyimagely,

No it’s installed on my own dedicated server. I’m fairly certain it was working just after 5.5’s release, but then something changed with one of the NGG updates after that and it broke in Gutenberg again.

On the classic editor issue with the same problem, that one was given a temporary fix in the WP 5.5.1 release, which returned some of the old jQuery stuff and thus allowed the NGG featured image option to work (they plan to remove the temporary fix next March 2021, so I’m sure NGG will resolve that one before then).

    Hello @ispreview,

So sorry to hear that you are experiencing some issues.
But we already addressed those issues from WP 5.5 release a long time ago.
We do have a pending bug with the Classic Editor and the Feature Image selector.
But Gutenberg shouldn’t be affected by this issue.

We can’t provide support on local installs, but a suggestion might be to check for existing conflicts just to be sure.

Let’s check if it is an existing conflict:
    – Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
    – Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
    – If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme. It could be a conflict with your current theme.

Note: a full website backup is encouraged before checking for conflicts.

You can also try to re-install our plugin to discard any corrupted file and check your WordPress site permissions.

Please, keep us posted, we are happy to help!

Ok I found the conflicting plugin, it’s called:

“Advanced Editor Tools (previously TinyMCE Advanced)”

When enabled that one stops NGG from showing the Featured Image option in Gutenberg.

    Hello @ispreview,

Thank you so much for letting us know.
Please, if you have some time, we´d like to take a closer look.
If so, please send us a bug report here: http://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread and let them know Gaby referred you.

We need all the steps to reproduce the problem, screenshots, and some information to replicate the same conflict.

    Many Thanks.

Weirdly when I did this test again and disabled that plugin the “Featured Image” link still did not return, so I figured it must be some sort of combination with another plugin playing a role.

I tested again and found that this popular plugin is also causing the same problem when enabled:

    “Yoast SEO”

    Hi @ispreview,

We haven’t replicated the same problem with just Yoast SEO plugin and NextGen Gallery activated so I am wondering if you can try to temporarily deactivate all the other plugins excepting NextGen Gallery and Yoast SEO to see if the issue persists.

Yes it persists. I even deleted Yoast SEO in the beta install, then re-installed, but the issue remains.

Just to confirm. Can you please let us know if you have already tried to temporarily activate a theme from the Twenty series and with NextGen and Yoast as the only active plugins?
