You can disable the XML-RPC endpoint, there is no dependency with the Webmention plugin.
Can you send me some example URLs so I can try to reproduce your issue?

Hello, Matthias +
thanks for getting back to me re this. π
I have a bunch of dummy posts we can use to ping-pong a bit with, if that would work for your analytic purposes? They’re under > https://liberal.is/blog/ressort/la-une/exemples/
Let me know how I can best assist you to get a better insight. Should I ping a post of yours? Do you want to ping a post of mine? π
Cheers – LX
Hallo elexem,
can you link from one of the posts to an other post and send me these posts? Be sure to enable the self-pings in the Webmention settings.

Hallo retour π
very well. Below https://liberal.is/blog/2017/08/02/quinoa-new-recipes-feta-broad-bean-salad/ I have left a comment I have left a comment containing a link to > https://liberal.is/blog/2017/08/02/one-swallow-does-not-make-the-spring-2/.
In the backend, no Webmention is showing :/ as yet.
(Self-Ping settings
– Disable self-pings on the same URL (for example “http://example.com/?p=123”) is ON
– Disable self-pings on the same Domain (for example “example.com”) is OFF.)

That is not exactly how it works…
You have to link from one blog-post to the second… then the first blogpost will show up as a reaction (comment) on the second blog-post.

oh darn π pardon my dumb π
hello, IndieWeb + thanks for jumping in. I have now amended the actual post at https://liberal.is/blog/2017/08/02/quinoa-new-recipes-feta-broad-bean-salad/ to contain a link to https://liberal.is/blog/2017/08/02/one-swallow-does-not-make-the-spring-2/ at the very end.
Alas, still not showing. Maybe I’m still doing something wrong – or does it work only on first / original posting and not with subsequent updates, perhaps?
thx! π LX

(to add : tried a fresh post, too > https://liberal.is/blog/2018/12/24/one-more-test-for-webmentions/ > not showing either. I must be still having something wrong.)
Sorry + thanks for any further help with this.
Cheers – lx
it seems that you have enabled a captcha plugin, that hooks into every comment-creation process. Can you try to disable the plugin and re-try sending a webmention?

I had 2 potential suspects active:
a) “Spam Destroyer”
b) “Shield Security” (which comes with dedicated Anti-Spam-Section)
+
went about testing like this:
a: disabled “Spam Destroyer” (which means “Shield” was still active)
a.1 : edited pre-existing test post with link to other post : no effect
a.2 : created new test post with link to other post : no effect
b: disabled “Shield”s ‘ Module: Comments SPAM Protection’ entirely (which means both ‘Spam Destroyer’ and ‘Shield’s Anti-Spam-Section were inactive at the same time)
b.1 : edited pre-existing test post with link to other post : no effect.
b.2 : created new test post with link to other post : no effect.
Can you perhaps give further indication whence the captcha originates? A path that might hint at the serving plugin?
Cheers – LX

Hello, Matthias
+ thank you for pursuing this further. Apologies for my delayed response, that was owed to the Christmas slack etc.
Your finding proved a valuable clue as it points to the plugin “GDPR Framework” (https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/gdpr-framework/), which in its settings offers the option to add a checkbox to the comment form requiring to accept the privacy policy before being able to post said comment. I have deactivated this option + repeated the test you outlined in your last reply, Matthias, and can happily report back that I got a “Webmention was successful” this time π
It then shoewd nicely in the queue of comments pending moderation in our backend and, afer accpetance, below the article, @ https://liberal.is/blog/2017/08/02/one-swallow-does-not-make-the-spring-2/#comment-96 π – so, yay! Success!! π
Cheers for that. (y)

Beyond that, I notice/d that there, so far, appears to be no German translation included. Is somebody working on that already or would a German translation still pose a welcome contribution?
Best – LX
Every contribution is helpful! It would be awesome, if you can help with the german translation. I started, but never had the time, to get to 100% https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/de/default/wp-plugins/webmention

I’d simply have dug myself thru the translation per Loco on my admin backend and sent you the .mo/.po one way or the other;
am not familiar with translate.wordpress.org yet. Which of the 4 branches displayed there would you need tackled? Would it perhaps make sense to go like I suggested instead of plowing thru 2 or 4 instances at translate.wordpress.org? I must confess, I don’t even understand what the readme instances are for, sorry to say.
But I know how to use Loco π
if that helps? Cheers – LX
