Hello, I currently run a 1 and 1 Dynamic Cloud Server for my website. I recently did an upgrade of the Server software (Plesk Panel 10.3.1).

Before doing so however I made a database dump and also backed up the actual files on the server. Now that I did a restore the original text widgets to the site are no longer there AND Text Widgets in general do not work when I add one to the sidebar.

I understand that WordPress and PHP serialize data especially the text widgets found in the sidebar. I discovered that from this post:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/widgets-missing-after-move-to-new-domain?replies=12

When I import the mysql database the data is there but once I login or go to the actual website the data disappears.

However I believe they should be working since I did not change the url, ip address or anything else. Is there something I’m missing?

I did get the widgets to work by modifying the functions.php that Otto referred to in this link:

    http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/9076/why-is-my-database-import-losing-text-widget-data

I don’t want to have to recreate each and every text widget, quite a few (more than a hundred), but it would be great to get it work without modifying the functions.php file.

Has anyone experienced this at all before? Did I import or export something incorrectly?

After numerous trial and error I was able to get my Text widgets to work with the original functions.php file instead of the modified version I made from the link in the original post.

What I did was add a new text widget to a sidebar and named it “Test.” I then saved it to the sidebar.

Then I FTP’ed the original functions.php file overwriting the modified version back into the wp-includes folder.

The Text widgets sticked even after putting back the original functions.php! I was able to add and remove text widgets like normal again!
