 * I logged in to my website and had a notification from Wordfence. In my scan I
   have a warning in my server state (yellow triangle) I did a scan to see if it
   worked and the scan did go through and completed the task. However, the warning
   persisted. I went to options and the scan options seem OK.
 * Any help with this would be appreciated.
 * Many thanks
 * Teresa

 * Hi [@teresacuervo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/teresacuervo/),
 * Can you take a screenshot of the screen where you see this yellow triangle, along
   with any messages that Wordfence is displaying?

 * Hi, [@wfdave](https://wordpress.org/support/users/wfdave/)
 * Thank you for the quick response. Sure, the screenshot shows that the scan ran
   smoothly ( I ran it to see what error message it would give me) But the yellow
   triangle remains.

 * I have the same Server State Warning in my WordPress blog with Wordfence (yellow
   triangle).
    Ive tried scanning/debugging, and I’ve tried scanning/debugging the
   directory outside of my WP. I still get this error for over a week. On this Wordfence
   link below, they state that the WORDFENCE ASSISTANT plugin may solve this issue.
   Any advice? [https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/](https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/)
   [https://sv.wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence-assistant/](https://sv.wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence-assistant/)
 * UPDATE: For 2 WP websites I have this issue but I followed instructions on this
   link relating to the issue.
    [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/server-state-warning-and-not-completing-scan/](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/server-state-warning-and-not-completing-scan/)
   What I did:
    - Kill the existing scan if it is still running (The “Start New Scan” button
      turns in to a “Stop” button while the scan is running)
       Go to your Scan >
      Scan Options and Scheduling page and expand the “Performance Options” section
      Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20 on the options page
      Where it says “Time limit that a scan can run in seconds” enter 21600 Click
      to “Save Changes” Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page In the “Debugging Options”
      section check the circle “Enable debugging mode” Click to “Save Changes”.
      Click “Scan files outside your WordPress installation. **NOT DOING THIS STEP
      continues the Server State Error. Start a new scan

 * Hi, [@aownews](https://wordpress.org/support/users/aownews/)
 * Thank you for posting. Did it resolve the issue on your website? Mine still shows.
   I do have the checkbox “scan outside WordPress installation” unchecked so it
   does skip six paths when the scan finishes (Per the plugin’s recommendation)and
   the scan does complete. However, I still have the warning. That warning was not
   there before even when the box was unchecked.

 * Hey [@teresacuervo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/teresacuervo/)
 * This unfortunately did not resolve the issue. Here is what I performed:
    PART
   ONE: Killed the existing scan while it is still running (The “Start New Scan”
   button turns in to a “Stop” button while the scan is running) Went to your Scan
   > Scan Options and Scheduling page and expand the “Performance Options” section
   Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20 on the options page Where
   it says “Time limit that a scan can run in seconds” enter 21600 Click to “Save
   Changes” Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page In the “Debugging Options” section
   check the circle “Enable debugging mode” Click to “Save Changes”. Start a new
   scan. **I DID NOT PERFORM THIS YET: Copy the last 20 lines from the Log (click
   the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log and paste them here** these were
   instructions requested on these Wordfence Forums by Tech Support that I copied.
   So I have to post as a new topic.
 * —-
    PART 2 It didnt work. I cleared my computer cache, then cache on all websites.
   I contacted my web host to clear residual data in the directory I deleted all
   Wordfence plugins from all my websites, then added the Wordfence Assistant plugin
   to sites to remove all residual Wordfence data, and performed cleaning operations.
   I reinstalled Wordfence in websites, and Im getting the same problem. SERVER
   STATE ERROR. I am now using this plugin, to attempt to remove this malware.
 * If this does not work, I’ll contact Wordfence on these Support boards in hopes
   they can help. Again, **I DID NOT PERFORM THIS YET: Copy the last 20 lines from
   the Log (click the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log and paste them
   here**

 * Hi GUYS, Iam following this topic and have the same problem. Has anybody had
   resolution to this topic or has it gone “Inhouse” to be resolved in a less public
   manner?

 * Hey [@teresacuervo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/teresacuervo/), the issue
   has been resolved in the past. But its popped up again.
 * I will continue with the above instructions, but also going to Diagnostics> Debugging
   Options> and clicking checkbox of: Disable reading of php://input
 * *This gives a reference on some web hosts using outdated PHP (like mine at Bluehost),
   among other issues that may cause WordFence issues. (Also “Scan files outside
   your WordPress installation, while in debugging mode. *Only my main site is set
   this way, to maintain server load)*
 * I hope this solves your problem.

 * Hey (@aonews)
 * Thanks for the update. I will try that. Honestly, I had given up a bit on it
   and decided not to dwell on it. But I will try it.

 * The Wordfence people need to fix it which clearly they still don’t know how to.
 * Hopefully they will…someday 🙂

 * Hello,
 * This alarm means that the structure of your wordpress folders in the www folder
   is not correct. It is necessary to verify that files other than those of wordpress
   are not present.

 * He solved the problem as follows:
 * Step 1: click on the option: **Scan Options and Scheduling**
 * Step 2: click on the option: **General Options**
 * Step 3: Enable **Scan files outside your WordPress installation **
 * Step 4: Make a new scan

 * [@biovenezuela](https://wordpress.org/support/users/biovenezuela/) Wordfence
   removed the “Scan files outside your WordPress installation” option in 2019.
   I have suddenly started having the same problem. In addition am no longer getting
   scan results in my inbox after years of receiving them for all my websites. What
   the hell is going on???
