This is the error message I get when trying to get into admin:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://aioc-vi.com/wp-admin/. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
    Error code: 500

the website is down as well with the same error

    Any suggestions?

  • Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Error 500 is too generic to be of any use. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

Went to the host and after some discussion they said they upgraded the memory limit for the site and it started working again.
Maybe that might be helpful to someone else.

    here is the response:

I would like to let you know that php.ini has been created in cgi-bin folder with required values set. Please note that there was the handler added to your .htaccess to make php.ini work. Please do not delete this handler from your .htaccess:
    AddHandler phpini-cgi .php .htm
    Action phpini-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-custom-ini.cgi
All php settings you can check here http://yourdomain/phpinfo.php
