  • Hi there!

    I downloaded and activated the contact form 7 (version 2-4-5) from within WordPress 3.1.2. Right after activation I couldn’t access the dashboard anymore and got a ‘500 Server Error’ (on /wp-admin/) instead, also when trying to login again.

    Not knowing much about what I’m doing here, I couldn’t find a solution to this. But at least found a way to access my dashboard again:

    – use FTP to rename the plugin’s folder, so that WordPress can’t find it anymore and disables it automatically
    – access to the dashboard is possible again now
    (- I then changed the folder back to it’s original name and deleted the plugin with WordPress)

    For now I’m glad I can access my backend again. It’s a pity though that the installation didn’t work for me. If anyone would know a simple solution to this, I would be glad to hear it.

    Otherwise, the above might help someone experiencing the same problem.

  • I am experiencing the same problem, but it only happens when Akismet is activated. I am searching for a solution as well.

    Just wanted to check and see if there is any new thoughts or solutions for this issue.

    I didn’t have Akismet activated when I tried, so this shouldn’t be the problem in general.

    One solution that I came across when searching, which helped other people, was to assign yourself more memory for PHP with your webhost. One way to do that seems to be one line of code to the php.ini file. And the other I forgot. Maybe you can google that?

    I Have exactley the same problem, when i tried to install the wp e commerce plugin, same error “‘500 Server Error’ (on /wp-admin/) ” I cant login to my admin to de install this plugin 🙁
    Where did you access your FTP file? my hosting company is Fasthost and they wont help me ……. any suggestions please 🙂 ( keep it simple though as in a novice ) thanks x


    Your hosting company must have given you the details to log into your account (like server name and password) and probably a separate FTP password.

    Then you have either a dashboard/admin-panel where you can directly upload and change your files and folders. Or you would have to use some FTP software like ‘Filezilla’.
