 * Good morning,
 * I have recently (within 24 hours) switched over from a Windows server to a Linux
   server. So far only my homepage displays correctly: [http://www.followtheboat.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/server-change-website-gone/www.followtheboat.com?output_format=md).
   Any link from the homepage takes you to a 404 page error. In IE this displays
   correctly but in FF it just displays the html for this error message. My host
   company claims it’s all working but I’m in a different country to them and I
   can’t hit any of my links.
 * Is this a local/regional server cache issue? Should I be worried or will I eventually
   see my pages? Can anyone else get beyond my homepage?
 * Thanks in advance.

 * I get a “500 internal server error” message. FF on OSX, I’m in the US.
 * If it’s within 24 hours, give it some time before you start worrying. generally
   these things resolve themselves *after* 24-36 hours.

 * Well, it’s now been 40-odd hours and my host tells me it is an incorrect configuration
   within WordPress. What could that be? What would I need to change in order for
   it to run on a Linux server that is different to a Windows server?

 * It might be a permalinks issue. Try changing it to default, test, then change
   back to your current setting. This solved a similar issue when I moved one of
   my sites recently.

 * I’d agree with numeeja. If you had permalinks set, an .htaccess file done, etc.
   then the move could have messed this up. You might also try deactivating plugins
   that were activated and moved, and see if that helps.

 * 500 errors can also be problems with the character encoding of the .htaccess
   file, so check to see that the encoding of the file has linux/unix linebreaks,
   instead of windows, and do that with the text editor you use to edit .htaccess.
   And check the contents of .htaccess, too, to be sure there aren’t multiple rewrites
   that are conflicting with each other.

 * OK, problem solved. Half the issue was that the host was having problems with
   their Linux server, which meant I couldn’t even get into Dashboard. Eventually,
   when I could, I changed the permalink structure and hey presto, bob’s ya uncle
   and fanny’s ya aunt: all working.
 * Thank you to those who replied.
