  • You could read the documentation: http://www.seriouslysimplepodcasting.com/documentation – that’s usually a good place to start 🙂

Actually Hugh, that’s precisely where I am !!! trying to follow instructions so there’s no need to be sarky.

I’ve got to #2 – Upload the ZIP file through the ‘Plugins > Add New > Upload’ screen in your WordPress dashboard
Wehn I look for it in the search it says it’s installed. But it’s not appearing along with jetpack and askimet and such. My WordPress dashboard doesn’t have it so … ???

I wasn’t being sarky – just trying to be helpful 🙂

In your WordPress dashboard, do you see a menu item called ‘Podcast’? It should be somewhere below your ‘Posts’ menu item. Once you’ve found that, then you can follow the guides from here: https://www.seriouslysimplepodcasting.com/documentation/setting-up-your-podcast/

I should add I find wordpress’ symbols not the most intuitive in the universe!

Please make sure the plugin is activated. If it is, then please link to a screenshot of your WordPress dashboard menu, so I can see the issue.

Hugh – this is just what I can’t do, and I don’t know why! How do I activate it if I can’t see or find it? I have no Podcast menu item – and I don’t know why not.

Just so we’re on the same page – ‘active’ is not the same as ‘installed’. The plugin needs to be activated and not merely installed. SiteGround has a useful guide for this: https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/wordpress_plugins.htm

If your plugin is indeed active, but you cannot see the menu item then the issue is not with this plugin. Rather the problem will be one of your other plugins (or your theme) causing a conflict that is preventing the menu item from being displayed. In that case you will need to find out which plugin is causing the conflict.

To do this you have to deactivate every plugin you have installed (except for Seriously Simple Podcasting). With all of them inactive you will definitely see the ‘Podcast’ menu item.

You then need to activate each plugin, one by one, and check to see if the menu item is visible after each activation. When it disappears then you will know that the most recently activated plugin is the one causing the conflict.

Let me know how that process goes.

Not doing very well. May be the theme. Can you recommend good themes for podcasting to go with your plugin?

Belay that last. By changing the theme to Pinboard I’ve achieved the Podcast tab on the dashboard, activated the plugin, and a couple of others I wanted. I know slightly more than I did this morning!

I’ll go and continue my way through your instructions now.

Great – glad it all worked out 🙂
