Support » Installing WordPress » Sepecial german problem with upgrade 1.2 to 1.5

  • Hi everybody,

    iv got a special problem with the upgrade from 1.2 to 1.5.
    My domainname includes a german alpabetic character: ü
    http://www.schü which is in international code . But after installing the side appears whithout any css layout and you can see in the sourcecode of the hp that this adress has been modified, in this http://www.xn–” type=”text/css” media=”screen” so that the installation cannot find any layout, because that adress does not exist. I looked up in php my admin looking for changes made by the upgrade process but erverything is still right.

    Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it.

    Thank u all for help

    Have you checked the german forums ?

    I’m not saying you MUST go there, but maybe there is a better chance of help there .

    P.S. does not work, seems to be part of the problem, look up source code of

    I’ve checked it, there is another guy with them same problem without solution.

    Open wp-includes/functions-formatting.php in a text editor and at around line 14 or so look for this:

    $curl = str_replace('--', '–', $curl);

    Comment it out, like so:

    // $curl = str_replace('--', '–', $curl);

    The problem has cropped up a few times before on the forums, but can’t locate the threads.

    Jeah, great. it works. thank u tousandtimes, i will post it on german forum.

    Have a nice day

    If you would like to keep the dash conversion, you could use these two lines instead (i.e. keep the original first line shown below, add the second after it):

    $curl = str_replace('--', '–', $curl);
    $curl = str_replace('xn–', 'xn--', $curl);
