 * I have read previous entries on this topic ([http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-with-seperate-dbs](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-with-seperate-dbs),
   [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-installation-with-separate-databases](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-installation-with-separate-databases),
   [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/need-different-databases-to-different-blogs-in-one-wordpress-multisite](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/need-different-databases-to-different-blogs-in-one-wordpress-multisite),
   [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/blogs-with-a-different-database-for-each](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/blogs-with-a-different-database-for-each)),
suggesting that separating databases don’t help much if at all.
 * However I will be using existing databases, some years old, and I wouldn’t be
comfortable with merging them together while my customers also might not be comfortable
with having their databases mixed. I still need multisite in order to share codebase,
themes and be able to query multiple sites.
 * I found this method – a conditional wp-config / and I would just like to know
if it is the way to go or if there’s some inherent flaw to it.

 * What are you ACTUALLY trying to do? Make a multisite instance with separate DBs
per site? That’s really the antithesis of what WP Multisite is supposed to be.
 * You can use the trick in the last link, but that won’t really work with Multisite
itself. You can do that to have one code-base, but then you’re not Multisite
   🙂

Yes. “That’s really the antithesis of what WP Multisite is supposed
to be.” I understand that. “You can use the trick in the last link, but that
won’t really work with Multisite itself. You can do that to have one code-base,
but then you’re not Multisite :)” won`t really work as in “break it” or as in“
make it unworthy of its name”? 😀

 * Wouldn’t using separate databases save server space as the WordPress install
   is not repeated?

 * Please use the BlockQuote tags 🙂 Makes it easier to read. So to extra blank
   lines between paragraphs.

 * Won’t work as in ‘Will not function from a code perspective.’
 * You can do it as a single install of WP, and then you’re not using Multisite.
Which I suggest you do, actually. _DON’T__ do this with Multisite. It’s neither
   supported nor necessary._
