• My Question is, can you have a separate template for the main site as network admin and not allow the other sites to use that template (they would be forced use another)

I got it working, but I don’t think it’s the correct way to do it.

What I did was network enable both 2012 and 2010, set the main site to 2012, go back and network disable 2012 and leave 2010 enabled. So that my sub test sites pull the 2010 theme and my main site was stuck using 2012 even though it is not network enabled.

It actually works but I’m not sure why and if that is “best Practice”

Is there a right way to do this?

    thanks in advance.

  • A theme that remains network disabled under the Network->Themes menu (/wp-admin/network/themes.php) can be enabled on an individual site alone via the Network->Sites:Edit (/wp-admin/network/site-themes.php?id=1). You will still need to activate it at Site->Themes (/wp-admin/themes.php).
