Support » Plugin: User Role Editor » Separate settings for Posts and Custom Post Types

  • Hello,
I‘m trying to restrict the Contributor role from creating posts, but allow them to still be able to create Custom posts types. When I go to All > Posts >Uncheck Edit Posts it also unchecks the Edit Posts for Custom post types. Not sure if this is a feature or a bug? Is this available in the Pro version?
    Thank you

    Hi,

It depends from how a custom post type is defined. If CPT is defined with capability type ‘post’, it will use the same list of user capabilities as WordPress built-in posts do.
If you use some plugin, like ‘CPT User Interface’, then you can input a unique capability type for your CPT there.

Pro version has an option which allows to force existing custom post types, which uses ‘post’ or ‘page’ capability type to use its own unique capability type. So you can grant ‘edit_videos’ for access to ‘video’ custom post type, etc.
