• For active and large sites, I think it would be great to have the ability to create separate media galleries. For instance… The current one is great for web page and blog post galleries, but not always great for different post types. My personal use case for this would be to separate and organize client media from site media. The graphic design and mockups I do are only visible to clients who have logged in. It would be great to have a separate media gallery just for that custom post type I have created for “Client Asset Portfolios”. When you have a lot of graphics in the gallery, it really can be difficult browsing and sorting through them at times.

To take it a step further…it would also be great to optionally have the media gallery organized in a folder like system. I have been using WordPress in one capacity or another since it first came out…but I have always felt that the media gallery has always been denied the attention it deserves to take it to the next level….out of the box that is. I know some level or organizing can be accomplished with plugins…but who wants to install a lot of plugins?

I know that there are plugins, but the whole point of the feature request was to have it be built in. It isn’t good to just slap on a plugin for every little feature you want. The more plugins you have running the more likely performance issues come up.

Plugins are part of WordPress’ philosophy https://wordpress.org/about/philosophy/

@andrew – What’s that supposed to mean? No one, let alone I, said plugins are bad. I said that having too many plugins installed can hurt the performance of a site. That’s a fact that you know you cannot refute. The more you have, the longer your site will take to load, especially if you’re already using intensive plugins like WooCommerce. The more you use, the more likely you can have an interference issue between one plugin and another, or even a theme.

Regardless, the purpose of this post was a feature request…to request we take the media galleries to the next level…out of the box.

I meant that you need to consider WordPress’ philosophy when requesting features for core. It simply comes down to; does your feature benefit the majority? If not, then no, core shouldn’t incorporate it.

Whether core has the feature or a plugin has the feature doesn’t take away performance load.

Are you really trying to claim that a more robust media gallery with better organizing features wouldn’t benefit everyone? Seriously? There is zero organization features built into the UI of the media gallery right now. /smh

You said it in your opening post; “the current one is great for web page and blog post galleries, but not always great for different post types”.
Just like custom post types are plugin territory.

Right…and no one who uses WordPress for more than a basic site or blog, which is a lot of people, would find it helpful. Or are you not w claiming that WordPress only cares about amateur/novice users with simple sites?

Regardless…I’m done here if you’re just going to troll.

I’m sorry that I’m coming across rude. You should continue this and I should leave.
