SEO question about headers

  • I think I made a minor error with my headings. I didn’t like <h1> font size and it bolded on one of my first pages of my website so I created a custom template without a title and I manually put in the title on the page myself. I liked the flexibility it gave me so I just went ahead and did that with all my pages. I used the “font sized” option of the visual editor to size my Headings.

It occurred to me though that Google probably looks for the <h1> tags for it’s search engine and I am hurting myself by doing this. Is this correct? Should I go back and change my CSS to reflect the header that I want and use the header tags instead?

Also, should I do this the same for lesser headings with smaller fonts that are being used or does that matter?

    Thanks
    Bryan

  • Is this correct?

Yes. Google applies more weight to H1 headings than it does to to H2, H3 etc.

Absolutely! A good logical heading structure is an integral part of SEO.

should I do this the same for lesser headings with smaller fonts that are being used or does that matter?

    All headings matter.
