I basically just want to be able to remove index.php from the permalink but it seems to only work with it in there?
PATHINFO permalinks with index.php are used for Windows IIS servers without mod_rewrite.
Umm.. what does that mean? I am a pretty basic user and dont really understand.
It means that if your site is on a Windows IIS server, you may be stuck with having index.php in your permalinks.
Oh ok. Mine isnt, so what can I do to change the permalinks?
Why this doesn’t work for you? Using_Permalinks
Hmm that mod-rewrite stuff sounds really complicated?
Here is what I did to change the default permalinks to ones which it creates the post date, them post name (I got this info. from the book “WordPress for Dummies” by Lisa Sabin-Wilson, pages 143-146).
It worked for me!!!
Log-on to your Dashboard
Click Settings (right corner)
Click Permalinks
Select option 2 if you want date and post name or select the custom option if you want to write yor own.
***VERY IMPORTANT – make sure to change your permissions to your .htsaccess file!***
Yeah I did that but it only gives me those options with index.php in them (eg: http://www.steadyvibe.com/new/index.php/2008/09/22/sample-post/)
Ok, did you try to use (instead of option 2) the custom permalink option>
Yep. Any time I take out the index.php it doesnt work.
