SEO for home pages that calls latest posts for content

Hi all

after much google searching i seem to be going round in circles or finding pages of people trying to sell me stuff about how best to SEO.

My question is simple really, I’m using several themes on different websites all very different with a common problem, the various templates call for the latest posts to be pointed to the homepage, where you then use widgets to create the homepage content, and create a separate blog page later for actual posts, I’m using SEO by Yoast as the SEO plugin of choice. but now where do i have an option to SEO the homepage.

Google simply picks up the SEO for the latest blog post and uses it as the home page seo, which os often not so relevant.
