  • I am helping a blogger out with her blog. She makes about 6 to 7 post a day mostly about online deals. She currently has about 18,000 post. A lot of her traffic comes in from google, but they come through an outdated post. She is ranked high for a lot of keywords, but 90% of her post are expired deals. Causing her bounce rate to be high.
My questions are, Should we remove her old post? Maybe just the oldest 5k? Any tips for getting the category page ranked instead of each article?
    Any tips really.
    Thanks.

  • What about making a redirection to the home page when a user coming from Google opens an “expired” page?

Keep em, Keep em ALL! Look for a plug-in to do the redirects and be-sure all future posts go to categories…

As soon as you start removing the older pages Google will stop liking the site because the content is being removed so the rankings will suffer. So don’t delete the old posts, and don’t redirect them (same thing, it’s loosing content).

Keep the posts, but set up the templates in a different way. When a deal has expired, set it up to show a big bold link to a current deal, or a list of current deals. That way users will see the deal has expired, but they’ll also be shown a very easy way to find another deal that hasn’t expired.

Ok thanks for the replies. Do you know an automated way to make it link to the newest post in that thread?

Not off the top of my head, but there’s not to much programming to it. it’s nothing that I think you’ll find in apre-made plugin so I would think that it’s something that you’ll have to look at doing yourself. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but there’s not a plugin that’s ready-made for everything quite yet. 🙂
