Support » Plugin: Simple Membership » Send reminder to complete registration

  • Hi, I’m still currently setting this plugin up to work on my site. In sandbox mode I have a test member account that has paid via the button to the sandbox paypal account and successfully received the automatic email in order to complete registration. I have clicked the link that it supplies and all looks great. I have purposefully not completed registration for the test member so I can do further testing.

The site is now live and sandbox turned off with the correct paypal account in place etc. It all seems to be working fine and we have had one successful transaction already by a live member and they have completed the registration without any problems.

I am still doing further testing though and in Settings->Tools tab I can see that you can generate the correct link in order to send a reminder to complete registration.

If I tick the “Send Registration Reminder Email Too” box should that send the reminder out?

No email is received when I do this. I could just copy the link and email it manually but I’m about to import 70 members. They will all need a reminder email sending to them with their unique link so that they can complete fields such as address etc.

Is there a correct way to be able to email 70 members with their unique link to complete registration? All other automatic emails seem to work fine such as the one you tick when you notify the member you have updated their account so I don’t think I have any general problems with sending emails out using the plugin. The debug log doesn’t record anything when I use the “Send Registration Reminder Email Too” box.

    Thanks

Hi, can you carry out a test. First enable Debug mode.

Carry out a test paid registration but don’t do anything after your receive the e-mail after making a payment. Simple ignore this.

Then send yourself a registration completion e-mail, sent from Tools.. Check to make sure you receive it and you follow the instructions. After this can you check the log file and report back.

    Thank you

Hi thanks for your reply, I did as you said. I put the plugin in sandbox mode, carried out a test paid registration. All successful and received confirmation email which I ignored. I then used the settings->tools to send registration completion email. Email didn’t arrive. The Enable Debug option is ticked but the debug log.txt is completely blank.

Just to follow this up, the debug file is showing up blank in my browser but when I download it I can see there has been 2 entries made and all start with [09/12/2016 12:49 PM] – SUCCESS : etc etc.

Do you want me to post the debug text here?

Hi, no that is not necessary for now. But I would like you to carry out the same testing done above but not in Sandbox mode. Could yo carry out the test in live mode.

    Thank you

Hi I haven’t tested a live transaction yet as it would mean making a real payment but I have looked at the server logs and found that the recipient email address is blocking the reminder email because it is coming from a server that is blacklisted in several blacklistings. Even though I’m sending the email from my server to a recipient on the same server for some reason the WP Simple Membership plugin is routing the email via this IP address: 83.142.189.10 which is blacklisted. I find this very worrying that access to sensitive information is routing through a blacklisted IP address. Could you please advise?

So you are saying that the recipient’s IP address is blacklisted? I am almost certain that the routing is not done via this plugin. The routing is done by some other method either in your server or else where. This plugin does not route blacklisted IP addresses. Can you check with your host to find out if they have anything set up in place that would route blacklisted IP addresses?

The recipients IP address isn’t blacklisted but just checking with server techs…

    Okay thank you

After more investigation my server techs have got it completely wrong. I am rejecting blacklisted mail but it’s not coming from this. Sorry for the red herring! That cost me about a day’s progress. There is no log for when I send a reminder email, so nothing is getting sent. I’ll try a test account in live mode…

I have set up an account in Live mode and followed the steps and everything works fine until I try and send a reminder email. No email is received. What else can I do?

    (@cannon303)

So just to clarify. Basically clicking the “Send Registration Reminder Email Too” box doesn’t send an email to the recipient and whatever I have tried doesn’t rectify it. There is just no email being generated.

I do use SMTP only on my server but have that set up correctly and all other aspects of sending out email through this plugin work with no problems.

Are you talking about the Free membership or paid membership? You might like to read the following documentation.

Let me know how you go.

Yes looked at that but doesn’t touch on it. Let me clarify what I’m doing and we’ll see if I’ve misunderstood it or there might be a better way.

I have a spreadsheet with 70 people’s details on it. There are no user names or passwords for these people but just the basics such as first name / last name / email address etc. So how can I add their details easily and send them out a confirmation email for them to complete registration and add those details themselves?

I noticed when you look utdb_swpm_members_tbl in phpMyAdmin and look at a member who has paid through the paypal link but not yet completed registration that this table row holds basic information about that person. So I thought I could import my users info into this table in phpmyadmin. Test runs have been very successful importing as a csv file (although I’ve had to manually add info to various columns such as add a code in the reg code fields – 206de945f6a3e91fc8fe2ba643c2122f which isn’t a problem).

I thought at this stage I could then go into WP Simple Membership > settings > tools and use the facility there to send out confirmation links to the users to get them to complete their registration by ensuring “For All Incomplete Registrations ” is ticked and “Send Registration Reminder Email Too” is ticked but no email is sent.

All other emails are sent and referring to the debug file as you suggested shows that emails have been sent for other events but not for this particular one.

    Is there a better way?
