# Send new users password

 * I’m trying to set up a site where an admin can add new users and the new users
   are sent their password. I’ve enabled the Enable Custom E-mail module and I’m
   using the %user_pass% as shown [here](https://www.dropbox.com/s/4c80wly7cfk2fl8/2018-01-15_1419.png?dl=0).
 * I’m doing this on a test site, with no other plugins installed.
 * Unfortunately the password that is sent out when I do this is not the correct
   one. Am I doing something wrong?

 * So there isn’t an option to send users their password, they have to click a link
   and set the password themselves?

 * Afaik yes… or they can set it themselves during registration.
 * Why would you want to send them their password ? Why do something manual when
   it can be automated ?

 * With site/s I have, all the users are added manually (or bulk imported via CSV
   if there are a lot).
 * WordPress automatically generates a password when you [create a new user](https://www.dropbox.com/s/oo0e1xe74d20wka/2018-01-17_1634.png?dl=0),
   so that part isn’t manual.
 * Perhaps it’s a security thing, and emailing passwords isn’t the done thing anymore.

 * I would indeed just let them reset it themselves and changes it to whatever they
   want it to be.
 * WP changed it indeed for security reasons afaik.

 * It is definitely a security thing. Passwords should no longer be sent via email.

 * Ok, thanks for your help guys.
 * Regarding the reset password links that are sent to users:
 * 1. Do these links expire and if so, how long do they remain valid for?
 * 2.Assuming someone other than the intended recipient had access to the link (
   and it hadn’t been used already), is there anything to stop that person using
   the link to reset a password?

 * The links are valid for one day and there is nothing else to stop someone else
   from using the link if they obtain it.
