Self-hosted WP but domain pointing to WP.com

  • I’ve installed WP.org on my host, Sinohost.net, which I used to set up this domain: lizmeiguo.com

However, all the updates i’m making to my website are still being made on WordPress.COM.

How do I make this change from WP.org so that I can get the benefits of customized blogging/plugins, etc?

    Really confused noob here, sorry.

Did you set the nameservers for your domain name to the new host?

I don’t think so, but I tried doing this:

blog dashboard –>Store–>Domains–>Primary Domain (lizmeiguo.com)–>Edit DNS

And then this blank form comes up and I have no idea what to do with it.

How do I update my nameserver for my domain name to the new host?

    Thanks

    See if this answers that:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

For additional help, you need to ask on the .COM forums.

I registered lizmeiguo.com on Sinohost, which means I need to refer to Sinohost to have the nameserver changed, right? So this really has nothing to do with WordPress.com

so I should update the nameservers on SinoHost so that lizmeiguo.com is pointing to ns15.sinohosting.net and ns16.sinohosting.net .

Oh, yes, sorry. Wherever it’s registered is where you need to set the nameservers – if those are the settings they’ve told you to use then that should be correct. Be aware that it can take up to 72 hours for a nameserver change to take full effect. Also make sure you clear your browser cache and cookies so it won’t keep sending you to the .COM site.

I made the name server change. Now, when I log into wordpress directly from my host, it takes me to the same exact wordpress.com dashboard that i’ve been seeing, and I see no indications that I’m officially on WordPress.ORG.

For instance, i go to appearance–>Themes, and there’s only ‘manage themes’ with ‘installed themes’ no where in sight. I had installed 2 themes to the wp-themes, uploaded, extracted the file in my file manager and all, btw.

Could this be because my domain change needs 72 hours to take full effect? Please confirm.

Yes, likely that it takes some time – you can see that the nameservers HAVE been changed here:

    http://www.whois.com/whois/lizmeiguo.com

I actually DO get your new site at your domain name, too – with the default twentytwelve theme visible.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Or tried another browser?

It’s also possible that I can see it, but you can’t yet – that’s how DNS changes can work.

Did you export and then import your content from your old site – the site I see has no content.

Here’s an interesting/cool site that shows how far your DNS changes have gone so far:
