Seeking plugin = info thumb gallery leading to MORE INFO BIG PIC

Just wanted to pick some brains to see if anyone has come across a plugin I could use for my client’s racehorse(!) selling site. The horses will not be available to purchase online obviously, this site’s purpose is to display photos of each horse, along with vital info – similar to top trumps if you like 🙂 that potential buyers can use as an online brochure.

I’m looking for a plugin with a gallery style layout that displays thumbs and brief amount of info alongside quite a few other thumbnails, that upon clicking the thumb, a large version of the pic is displayed in space above along with slightly more info.

I am new to WordPress, but not to web design in general, and am sure I will have to edit and customize a fair amount of code, but if anyone has any suggestions for me as a good starting point I would love to hear about it.
