I will investigate in case this is a WordPress 3.8 issue. Can you provide more information? What version of WordPress are you on? Can you explain the steps you are taking to create your gallery, and exactly what the output is vs what your expecting the output to be?
Now that I re-read your issue, I’m thinking that your not building your gallery correctly. If you upload via the Media Library, you have to “click to insert media” on the page or post, then you need to select the pictures you want in the gallery. It should build a “SHORTCODE” that lists the ID’s of the images you selected.

I use WordPress 3.8.
The steps that i follow are:
Open the post, go to Add Media and then on the left side there are tre options: Insert Media, Create Gallery and Set Featured Image. I choose Create Gallery, select the images and click on Create a new gallery and than click on Insert Gallery after wich in the post there is a shortcode, like this one:
[gallery ids="785,784,794,795,797,796,786,787"] buth there still no images if uploaded form Media LIbrary.
For scruple i also tried to install this plugin in another wordpress that I created, and again it does not work.
In both of cases if images are uploaded from computer and not from Media LIbrary it work so fine.
Another thing that i tried is to deactivate all of plugins except SM Gallery buth there is no difference.
I had no idea where can be the issue.
Not a problem for me if we can not resolve the issue, i will continue to load the images from the compuer, but I was curious to understand why it happens.

I don’t understand the difference between “load the images from the computer” and “uploaded from Media Library”. If you are able, you can email me a login to your testing site so I can take a look (seth at sethmatics dot com). Maybe if I can see a site where you have a “working” gallery and a gallery with no images, I can identify the problem!
also, just updated the plugin after finding some jquery issues. see if this fixes your problem.
The difference is when i open the post and click Add Media, i can choose from where i want to upload them, i can choose between Upload files (it means upload the images from computer), and Media Library (that means choose the images that already are uploaded in Media),
Anyway after i updated the plugin it works now!
