Support » Plugin: Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth » Not Secure, actually caused site to be hacked

  • After installing, the site was hacked and the site was shut down by the hosting company due to widespread of malware installed on the site.

Here is one of the main problems:

    ./wp-content/plugins/jetpack/json-endpoints/class.wpcom-json-api-update-media-endpoint.php

Will never install again cleaning up this mess is just outrageous, a lot of files have been overwritten. Might have to reinstall website’s previous version, and then do all upgrades since this is really a big mess. You have been forewarned!

    Hi there,

I’m not sure that Jetpack could have caused that issue. Jetpack is a very safe and secure plugin. It even protects sites from cyber attacks like the one you’re describing.

Can you please let me know more about that path you shared? I don’t understand how it is related to the issue.
