Security message appears when accessing site via Google – how to fix?

Site name – http://www.languageoffootball.com

Hi folks,

I recently migrated from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, with hosting on BlueHost. I went with the basic hosting option. When you try to access my site via Google, you get the message below. Obviously this is costing me huge amounts of traffic, so I’m quite worried.

Am I correct in thinking that the only way to resolve this is to purchase an SSL and IP address? If I need to do this, I will, but I wanted to check there wasn’t anything else I could try first.

They’re telling me that the only option is to buy the (considerably more expensive) hosting option which gives me an SSL and IP address. If this is what it takes then of course I’ll do it, but as a relative newbie to all this I just wanted to check there if there are other options to explore first?

problem when protocol https instead http
why in google https pages, did you have ssl earlier installed

Your site works fine without SSL. However, searching “languageoffootball.com” leads to “https://languageoffootball.com”.

Did your site ever have SSL?

For individual sites, I wouldn’t recommend paying for SSL since letsencrypt.org offers SSL certificates for free. Of course, you may not be able to use it with bluehost’s shared hosting plan/s.

I don’t think my site has ever had SSL. It was previously WordPress.com.

To be honest though, before yesterday I hadn’t heard of SSL, so it’s possible I had one without knowing.

I will investigate if I can use letsencrypt.org.

Hi Eggy, does your site has too many redirects that google has marked spam or unsafe already?

Try checking your time zone set on your laptop or desktop that you’re using to view. Sometimes that may be one of the causes too.

Lastly, try viewing your site using other browsers. If may be Chrome’s problem.

look in google SERP, is there https or http link to your site?
You may loose all google traf if this problem will not be resolved

Yes, it’s an http that is linking to my site and, yes, I am currently losing all my Google traffic.

I’m pretty annoyed as I didn’t know any of this would happen when I bought the hosting plan. It looks like I will have to pay extra to fix it, so the winner here is BlueHost.

I understand that this is also down to my own lack of expertise.

You should ask BlueHost about SNI (Server Name Indicator) support, which allows the use of a shared IP for multiple SSL certificates, any version of cPanel released in the last year should support SNI. If they do not support a free or inexpensive SSL certificate, it is time to search for a new host that meets your needs.
