# Security help qustion

 * Hello, what do you think about this type of security measure:
 * Install wordpress by using “fantastico”, then install the plugin “better WP security”
   and do regular backups
 * Of course I’d use an strong password, not admin user name, a trusted theme and
   plugins
 * The question is, will that be enough?

 * There’s a good article about [hardening WordPress](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/security-help-qustion/codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress?output_format=md)
   that will tell you pretty much all that you need to know. There’s a few different
   security plugins out there so which one you use will depend on your own prioroties
   and comfort level.
 * My only other suggestion would be to not use the Fantastico installer. From what
   I’ve seen Fantastico doesn’t keep up-to-date with the latest releases of WordPress
   as well as it should, so when new versions are released they can’t be updated
   in the same way as that breaks Fantastico. This means that there’s a possibility
   that any potential vunerability that’s been found and patched in te new version
   would remain open until your hosting company updates their Fantastico program.

 * Thanks for your reply catacaustic, and yes, I was taking a fast look at “hardering
   wordpress” but then I wondered: maybe a security plugin takes care of this…so
   that was the reason of my doubt.
 * And about fantastico what if after I install wordpress install to the new version?
   will solve the problem?

 * I don’t know if they’ve improved the system since I last tried it, but when I
   tried ot do an upgrade of WordPress from the Fantastico installed version, Fantastico
   broke. Woudln’t work any more for that site. So I gave up on using it and did
   all of the installations from that time on myself and avoided all of the hassles
   of using those sort of automated installers.
