 * Does anyone have a working hack that requires a poster who responds to a blog
post to enter a ‘security code’ that is displayed randomly? I have a friend that
has a blog and that he is getting spammed to the point where he is trying to
prevent the spammers. Some sites like the whois and some search engines are using
this technology to prevent spammers from mass spamming him. I think this would
be a nice addition to WP to have a security code randomizer that displays a random
security code that is required to be inputed before posting.
    Thanks for your
   answers in advance.

 * That is not a very useful solution to comment spam. That method has been tried,
tested and has somewhat failed due to the fact that a lot of spammers are manually
entering their spam content. However, if there is a lot of interest in this method
from the WP community, I could put some time into a hack.

 * That “security code” method is called “Captcha”. It’s a mess in regard of accessability
and should be avoided. There are better methods than that and better ways to
spend your time on. Dougal mentioned that he is working on a bayes filter patch,
I’ll start working on adding blacklist support to WP soon.

 * I’m all for captcha! I’m not too worried about annoying blind people who ‘read’
   my blog.

   plugins will play well together?

Not as an anti-spammer hack, but as an anti-flooding one. [http://wordpress.org/support/10/9901](http://wordpress.org/support/10/9901)
Perhaps is not a lot of interest, but I need something like this, or I will have
to use MT instead of WP. There is a “catcha” plugin for MT. [http://mt-plugins.org/archives/entry/scode.php](http://mt-plugins.org/archives/entry/scode.php)
